Erin

Hey, I’m Erin. Welcome to Double the Recipe, I’m glad you’re here.

A little about me: My upbringing was in the Land of Meat and Potatoes where I promised my sixth grade teacher that I would never stop writing. Unfortunately, I did. For a long time. Now, I’m back. I also learned in this time the importance of (even busy people) coming together for meals, it’s the time to renew our most intimate relationships.

Before I moved to the Land of Perfect Pedicures where I met Amanda, I spent five years in the Land of Muggy Summers. In the Land of Muggy Summers (LMS) I set records in restaurant sales because, I was told, of the way my face lit up when I talked about food. If I told you about a menu special, you ordered it… and were happy. In LMS I learned about “other” food (meaning that other than meat and potatoes): veal scallops with gorgonzola cream, osso buco, pork with peach chutney, sweet potatoes with honey butter and wine.

Then, as life sometimes leads us places we don’t really believe exist in real life, I moved west to the Land of Perfect Pedicures where I began learning about food quality, health, vegetables, year-round farmers markets, impeccable standards for personal hygiene and fitness. LPP was where I really started cooking, finding for the first time that I had a steady schedule and an even more steady audience for meals. Let me be clear, I am not a chef nor have I ever trained to be one (though maybe I would like to?). I prefer to follow good recipes because the results are reliable: I want to serve and eat delicious things.

There’s a lot more that I’d like to share with you… but I guess that’s what this blog is all about. So, stay tuned and please, please send us your comments or feedback, we’d love to hear it.

Amanda

Welcome to Double the Recipe. This site is a place for Erin and I to share our adventures with food and to explore ways to create meaningful experiences around eating and drinking well.

As long as I can remember I’ve enjoyed a relationship with food that extends beyond eating.  When I was a little girl, I earnestly wrote that my favorite food was black-eyed peas and that I hoped to grow up to stand 3 feet tall and weigh 300 pounds! I am glad to report that wish did not come true, although I still very much like black-eyed peas.

I love to eat which is why I like to cook and why I am on the hunt for a tasty meal everywhere I go.  Learning to cook a dish that I crave at home not only satisfies my hunger but lets me share something delicious with people I love. I relish the challenge that cooking new dishes, and trying to master my old favorites, provides.

Food is a rich way to examine the way we live in the world: I am inspired by travel, how different cultures prepare and take their meals, and by reading all kinds of cookbooks from the cutting-edge and exotic to the old-fashioned and down-home.

Creating a meaningful experience for friends and family is part of what we hope to share on this site. I am on the lookout for humor, meaning, entertaining stories and fabulous recipes to share with you. The spirit of generosity is at the heart of Double the Recipe. We can’t wait to see what you will share with us.
